This was the first book I ever read for myself, by myself and I can remember it so clearly, it's like I read it yesterday. Happy birthday Roahl Dahl and thank you for turning me into a reader.
He would have been 90 today.

How about the Big Friendly Giant?
The Twits?
Oh my goodness. Matilda and George's Marvellous Medicine are my favourites. I love Dahl, R. I intend to buy all the books some day for my god kids [who have yet to be conceived].
Aah, Roald Dahl - one of my favourite favourites, and so quintessentially English. I can vividly recall how I read Marius se Merkwaardige Medisyne (that's George's Marvellous Medicine in Afrikaans, folks) aloud to the rest of my Grade one class every Friday. That was my first introduction to the magic of Dahl. I'd have to say that Matilda and The Witches have become my firm favourites. Such a naughty sense of humour. The best of the best.
I remember reading this to my class in reading hour in standard two while the teacher went for a smoke break... I was such a nerd.csxvd
have you read any of his stories for grown-ups? i prefer those. his short stories are hilarious.
i read most, if not all of mr. dahl's books. brilliant to say the least.
but, hasnt he stepped into the next plane of existence?
Neko: Yes, I love his adult stuff! And yes, he died in 1990.
I loved his poems and enjoyed reading them to the small and lovelies.
Oddly I think he disliked children didn't he?
Yes, Mr Grunt, sir, you are absolutely right - being a Dahl completist (he's one of the few authors whose entire oeuvre I can claim to have read) and having read his biography, I can confirm that he wasn't too crazy about children in physical proximity. Most people, actually. I think that's why he became a writer: there's more distance between you and your audience.
Never heard of it?
